Description of Savannah - Savannah is the largest city in, and the county seat of, Chatham County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The city of Savannah was established in 1733 and was the colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia.  Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors, who enjoy the city's architecture and historic buildings: the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America), the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences (one of the South's first public museums), the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African American Baptist congregations in the United States), and the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex (the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America).  Today Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District and 22 park like squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States.

Savannah Firsts - The first capital of the 13th colony and later of Georgia, The first city in North America planned on an extensive system of squares, The first cotton gin, The first steamship to cross the Atlantic, The first lighthouse on the south Atlantic coast, The first Girl Scout Troop, The first experimental garden in North America, The first Orphanage in America, The first golf course in America.

My Home in Historic Savannah - Located on East Gordon Street (the same street as The Mercer House, central site of the book and movie, Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, Whitefield Square, and the Temple Mickve Israel Synagogue) my house is a two story townhome built in 1860.  It is within the original master plan of Savannah set forth by General James Oglethorpe bounded by River Street to the North, Gaston Street to the South, MLK Boulevard to the West, and East Broad Street.  Walking distance to all downtown sites and activities, this is a perfect place to enjoy all of Savannah in a quiet neighborhood.  The Ward (now known as the Beach Neighborhood) was originally built as a middle class neighborhood for working class citizens including rail yard workers and skilled laborers.  With an active neighborhood association, it is a quiet area where neighbors know each other and are friends.  It is a great place to live.  On most weekends you will find me, my kids, and friends there.
